As you know, I decided to transition Today’s Word from “free” to “donation only” after 6 years of writing — around 2200 emails, without missing a single day. This decision has caused some readers to question my motives.
This move is NOT about money. It was never about money.
It’s about willingness.
And the measure of willingness that we chose is whether or not Today’s Word is valuable enough for you to make some tangible commitment.
The best example of willingness came from Carolyne. Here’s what she wrote to me three days ago:
i would like to send a gift and I would like to buy a book. is it possible to send you 2 money orders? One with my gift and the second for the book? since the Lord has lead me to do a little ministry within my favorite online prayer group, i decided to give the hebrew/greek definitions to the scripture so the readers of the group can understand the verse fully. im sorry for not sending a gift sooner, the Lord has brought me out of addiction as i explained in my first email to you and i work 2 jobs to pay back my debts and to keep my father at home next door to me. when my mom passed away a year ago daddy lost almost 500 a month from her social security and he is 72 and disabled. GOD is so GOod to me.
If im unable too buy your 40 day devotional with a money order than please just keep both money orders as my gift.
All I could write back was this:
“Thank you, Carolyne, for showing us a heart of willingness. I’m sending you my book – no charge. You have helped me see deeper into God’s character.”
