Update: Irene’s Birthday

During my last trip to South Africa, I had a chance to talk with Irene at her home in the White squatter camp.  The interview that I filmed will be ready to see later, but I discovered something that we can all do quickly.  Irene’s 15th birthday is 22 December.

I would like us to send her birthday cards.  NOT PRESENTS, just cards.  I would like this young girl to actually see that there are many, many people around the world who are glad she is alive.  I would like her to be overwhelmed with the thought that complete strangers in Yeshua care about her.

So, will you send a birthday card to Irene today?  She doesn’t have mail, so if you will send a card to me, I will send them ALL to Lourens who will deliver them.  But you have to do it right away or they won’t get there in time.  Just a card.  Nothing more.

Send it to

Irene

What a wonderful idea, I just got my beautiful garden card made and printed on it, do not know if she can even read printed letters, but left off the cursive. I even drew her an outline of the state of Texas in the United States of American. May God greatly bless not only Irene but her entire family, and give them true peace, and HOPE, and we pray that He will show them the Way out of the poverty!
Ed and I truly know that happened to us, as we were born in the Great Depression, and added to the severe Dust Bowls that lasted until WW Two got going good. ( terrible way for other to end for all the lives that the War took!). His gifts were especially athletics, & they had a large family and suffered greatly, but he “worked and played those “games” and earned degrees, and we met in a small Christian College, Sixty years of marriage NOW. We give the honor and glory to God the Creator of the Universe for all our numerous blessings. Love, to all that will read this. LaVaye with a very ill husband, Ed.

LaVaye Billings,

BRIAN, THANKS for asking about my husband, Ed, he has been home from a 12 day hospital stay under the care of Austin Heart Group, and is still having a tough go of living. He will be 84 Feb. 06, and has refused open heart surgery. He has an outstanding team of Heart Specialist. and tomorrow he will have complete blood work done once again, and will see one of the Group Dr. on Thurs.
Our children do not live close by. Our son was working in Florida when Ed became so ill that the Heart Dr. put him in a new ER Catholic Hospital about an hour from our home. Our son actually lives in Tucson. I had no idea whom to call to help me. ALL “working young profitable people” today live such hetic busy lives. I try to consider their needs, too. So after the shock of several hours of Dr.s and knowing I was just completing nearly four wks out of major surgery myself, that I did need help just to drive. So I spent hours the first night he was in the hospital praying asking the Lord to send me someone. I had sent all the first day’s infor out to the children with location of Hospital. At 7:00 a.m
the phone rang, it was our son, saying, Mom, I have changed my flight and will be at the Airport and hour away, rent a car, & go straight to the hospital. I was so comforted! He had his video equipment with him. Taped all the Dr.s Talks, plans, alive, and send out to each of the other close family members. He stayed a week, had to leave to go to Ohio and meet with FAA. He did not get to take his father home. But that gave me ability to work out what the Lord has worked in, stablize enough to function well with the help of the Our Heavenly Father. When I asked the Lead Heart Specialist if I needed Home Health Care when I took Ed home, his reply, “Well, you have taken care of him for 60 years, I think you will make it fine!”
So that is where we are now. Do not know what tonight, or tomorrow will bring forth. I ask you and anyone else to pray that we both will have the ability to live in such a manner as to honor our life committments to God the Father, Jesus the Son, through the power of the Holy Spirit. We all know we will die, but when you look death in the face, oh how we realize how weak we are. “though I walk through the valley of shadow of death—-something church people have usually vaguely heard thousands of times–suddenly it is REAL! As Skip penned in a recent DD, ” death is real, it is horrible”.
Brian, the best I recall, you lost your wife several years ago, and had a daughter to raise. I hope you will write some of your feelings of that. I hope I remember that correctly, if not please forgive me. Thanks so much for asking about my husband. LaVaye -expecting our first freeze tonight and next two nights. Think I have all ready: furnace & heaters, plants tended too, clothes dryer working, after sever wks of being out, plumbing issues tended to; amazing what we can do when we must do it!
