There were so many times that I made home visits to ramshackle termite-infested houses, where filth and lack predominated, except for the big screen TV and cable with all the premium channels. Adult family members sat together, in the middle of the work day, watching soap operas on the big screen with the smell of pot in the background. This is a perversion of values, not necessarily deliberate deception; and it calls us to be wise as serpents, but harmless as doves.
