A Special Invitation for 2016

(As of today, May 2, at 10PM EST, half of the places needed to make this happen have been taken.  And I have not heard from the group in Centurion yet.  I will probably hear from them on my way to Mexico tomorrow.  So if you thought you want to do this, please do not delay telling me so.)

2016 will be a little different for readers of Today’s Word.  For the last several years, Bob Gorelik and I have taken groups to Israel.  The people who came with us experienced amazing fellowship, significant paradigm shifts and a deeper love for the God of the Bible.  But we have no plans in 2016 to return to Israel.

Instead, what I want to do is experience YHVH in a different but just as powerful setting–in the wild of the African delta.  It is my hope that a small group, not more than 16 people, will be willing and able to go with me to Botswana for a safari unlike any other.  We will spend hours watching the magnificent creation YHVH brought to this earth, and an equal time studying the Bible in dialogue and teaching.  Each day will begin very early, watching the animals up close.  The afternoons will be times for discussion and text.  And then in the early evening we will go back to the bush again.  For five or six days, we will literally put ourselves in the midst of the African experience.

In order to make this trip possible, we need book a campsite.  Of course, these are not “tents on the ground” camps.  They are comfortable, equipped and safe.  Here is an example.

But to do this I need commitments from enough people to make it real.  The dates will be sometime between late February and mid March, 2016 (flexible depending on who goes) and the cost will be approximately $2500 per person not including the transportation to South Africa and Maun, Botswana.  But it does include everything else during the safari – all meals, game drives, activities, drinks, etc.  I am negotiating all this right now.  But I can’t go forward without knowing that there is a reasonable chance of having the required number of people.  The plan is to all meet in the Johannesburg area and visit the great community of followers there a few days before heading to Maun in Botswana where we will pick up the small plane that flies into the camp.  We will spend 5-6 days in one or more camps, then go back to Johannesburg where you can hang out in South Africa if you wish, or head home to wherever that happens to be.

So, if you ever wanted to take a safari and learn about the biblical view of creation at the same timethen please respond to this post by sending me an email saying that you are interested and willing to go.
