Staglieno, Genoa

One of Europe’s most significant cemeteries, Staglieno is filled with amazing emotions about death captured in stone.  Here are just a few examples.

Skip, et al, One of my many past dreams of things I would have liked to have done was collect and publish a book of Cemeteries epitaphs from Burial Stones. Alas, nearing the octogenarian age group, and my husband well into it, doubt that I will ever travel enough to gather the information and compile a book! But when I see something like the these pictures– I remember that dream.
In 2000, our oldest daughter and her husband took his mother and me to Oxford, and to Moreton-on-Marsh in the Cotswold, about 2 hours east of Oxford. they rented a car and we drove from our leased home in Moreton out on day trips primarily. Our son-in-law’s family had an Ancestoral Home, its name is Leckhampton Court, about five miles from Cheltenham. Then the home was owned by The Sue Ryder Foundation, an organization from WW 11, that did many charitable deeds to help the British during the war. They still have Second Hand Shops with donated goods -all of high quality at very reasonable prices to raise money. From the shop in Morton-on-Marsh, our son-in-law was able to find that they were having a “faire” that week-end, and the name & phone # a of distant relative of his who sometimes worked in the shop He lived in Cheltenham ( a very old town–all the way back to the Roman Roads),, The relative was contacted by phone, and told us about the Faire and he was going, we asked if we could come and pick him up and take him.— It was one of those beautiful events given to them and me -we felt by the Heavenly Father. He knew the last owners of the house as a Priate Resident– and the history of it, along with the burial grounds in the Church on the Property, and some of their family being buried there. The family members that I was traveling with did some chalk rubbings on paper for that purpose, in the old Church, over the burial stones in the floors and reachable wall areas—UNTIL THE PRIEST CAME IN AND SAID, SORRY, WE ARE NOW GETTING READY FOR A CHURCH SERVICE (WEEK DAY), –AND FOUND THEY WERE IN A GREAT SPIRITUAL RENEWAL.—We so wanted to stay, but had to get the distant relative home, and us to the lease house.
Our son-in-law is a home builder, had downsized, restructered his business and the new Name is LECKHAMPTON COURTS —-.One of his Aunts in the U.S. had previously done a historical search study for the history of the Ancestral Home. From that, I found this information: ” Leckhampton courts goes back to the fourteenth century, at one time William the Conqueror confiscated the estate and presented it to his wife, Matilda.–Later Leckhampton was awarded to the powerful Norman Family of Despenser.—– In 1486 the Manor, together with the Court, passed to the family of our son-in-law. And it goes on and on— but my own life is a very simple one,—
A IMMEDIATE CURRENT VERSE that I love, is ! Thessalonians 4:10-11– read it in several versions, i am so impressed by the Lord, that we are waisting our time, talents in such busy busy contemporary activities that we lay waste to our great spiritual blessings— No time to be quiet before the Lord, to seek, to find all the riches HE has for us!
,—- GOD IS SO GOOD IN SO MANY AREAS! YES, WE BATTLE THE EVIL REGULARLY, “iN THE WORLD YOU WILL HAVE TRIBULATIONS–bUT YESHUA, HAS OVERCOME THE WORLD”— ” if we seek with all our hearts and souls and minds, we will find— never ending battle each day– but we will keep on finding His Love, Mercy, Grace, if we do NOT GIVE UP! Blessings to all– LaVaye Billings
