Scenes from Malta

The dome of the Mosta Rotunda church is the fourth largest unsupported dome in the world.  During the second world war, a bomb dropped through the roof during a service.  Miraculously, it did not explode.  In fact, you can see it in the museum of the church.  Both the outside and the inside of this church are architecturally impressive.  Imagine a dome with a diameter of 122 feet.  Then look up.

St. John’s Cathedral in Valetta is perhaps the most spectacular church I have ever seen.  It is stunning to see so much craftsmanship and know that it was all done by hand hundreds of years ago.  One can only wonder where such skills have gone.  Even though there are many pagan symbols in this place, it is impossible not to feel the grandeur of God in the quiet of this magnificent sanctuary.

Then there is St. George’s Cathedral in Rabat on the island of Gozo.  Even this parish church is almost overwhelming in its beauty.

Finally, Rosanne and I made a new friend at the Presidential Palace.
