Called
“if My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven” 2 Chronicles 7:14
Called – It’s all about your business card.
So you’re a believer? Then read this verse and ask yourself, “Who does the calling?” Is it God who calls you by His name or is it you who call yourself by God’s name? A little grammar answers the question. The word qara is reflexive. That means that we are the ones who call ourselves by God’s name. It’s not God who is naming us as part of His tribe. It’s us. We are claiming to be His people.
Why is this important? Because God doesn’t say, “I will only hear those whom I have chosen.” He says that He will hear those who have chosen Him. You and I get to make the call. You and I get to say, “Yes, He’s my God. I serve Him.”
You carry God’s business card. You decided to join His company. When someone asks you, “Who do you work for?”, you can give them the card. Like all business cards, it shows the name of the company in big letters. Then it shows your name. The card demonstrates an official connection. You belong to the company. You speak on behalf of the company. You represent the company’s reputation.
Do you insult your own company? Do you step all over the rules? Do you disregard the policies? Do you cheat your company? Do you deliberately undermine your company? If you did any of these things, do you suppose that the company president would just look the other way? Of course not! If you are going to call yourself by the company name, you better live and act in ways that enhance the company’s reputation and image. That’s the point of this verse. God wants you to know that if you reflect His character and image, He will take care of the rest.
You carry God’s business card. You made His business yours. How are you doing? How does His company reputation and image look in you?
