The Purpose of Seeing

“For the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.” 2 Chronicles 16:9

Strongly Support – When the seer Hanani came to Asa, the king, he had good news and bad news. The good news is that God not only seeks out the righteous, He is also anxious to lend them His power. The bad news for Asa was that his disobedience would result in continued strife and failure. Asa was so upset with this news that he threw Hanani in prison. But God had spoken. The kingdom was ruined.

Hanani brings a message to us too. God hasn’t changed. He searches the world for those who are committed to His purposes because He wants them to become strong. That’s the basic meaning of the Hebrew chazaq. God lends us His power when we are aligned with His purposes. That news is really good.

But what about the rest of Hanani’s message?

Today’s business culture plays the Asa game. Men and women believe that the right partners, the right strategy and the right execution will bring power and profits. More often than not, these critical decisions are based on goals that are not in line with God’s purposes. They are in league with Asa’s plan for domination, expansion, protection, success and fame. They work – for awhile. Asa was king – for awhile.

But the day comes when a seer arrives with the bad news. Misalignment, at any level, will prevent God’s strong support. Then I will be out on my own. My days of success will be numbered. My power will fade. God will recall the loan and I will fall, along with my plans, my achievements, my company or my nation. There is only one formula for long lasting success. I must have a heart that is completely His.

Whenever we compromise to accomplish, we are subject to Hanani’s warning. Profit, promise and praise mean nothing if they come by accommodating to the world’s point of view. God doesn’t lend His strength to conformity with this age.

What message is Hanani telling you?
