Heaven Is Not A Democracy

Thy kingdom come Matthew 6:10

Kingdom – If you have ever prayed the prayer, you have petitioned the Father to bring about His kingdom on this earth. You have given your assent to the desire to have God’s kingdom and God’s will become the reality of your experience here and now. But have you ever thought about what that means? Or do you just say the words because it is the appropriately religious thing to do? Are you condemning yourself by agreeing with God’s plan while you act against its fulfillment?

God is not the President. He does not run for office. We do not vote for Him. His kingdom is no democracy. God is the absolute ruler and sovereign lord of His basileia The Greek word in the New Testament does not mean a place. It is not some far-off country where castles and knights populate the landscape. Basileia means reign and rule. It is a word that describes a relationship between the one in authority and those who are under that authority. Until you subscribe to God’s reign and rule, He is not your King and you are not part of His kingdom. In other words, God’s Kingdom comes when you and I turn over our agendas to Him and adopt His agenda as the only game plan in life.

Do you believe that you are in agreement with God’s reign and rule? Can you pray this prayer with understanding? Let’s take a closer look.

Those who have become servants of the King have adopted the following point of view:

1. Everything I have is a gift from the King awaiting His call to use it in His service. This includes my time, my talent and my treasure. Whenever I make decisions about time, talent and treasure that are motivated first by my desires, I am not bringing about His basileia.
2. The character of my life is a direct reflection of the One that I serve. If God is my Ruler, then purity is my goal and obedience is my method. My life values and behaviors make God proud and attract others to His Kingdom.
3. I actively pursue His game plan for Kingdom advancement. This means that my life is filled with service to others, proclamation of the good news, redemptive sacrifice, humility, cheerful giving and a deep contentment with my existence. Any enticement that glorifies my value, my achievements or my recognition, excludes me from the game plan. At the deepest level of my life, I know that it is not about me.
4. I have stopped worrying about my future. I trust my Ruler and I await His orders.
5. Jesus’ mission statement is my mission statement (Luke 4:18) and you can see it happening in my daily activities.

Is His basileia coming because of you?
