Emotional Will

saying, “My purpose shall rise; and I will do all My desire.”  Isaiah 46:10

Desire – What happens when God reveals His own delight?  We know that our delight in Him is characterized by faithfulness to His commandments and longing to be in His presence.  But what can we say when this word (haphets) is used to describe God?  Does God delight in something?  The answer is found in this verse, and, in fact, in the whole of Isaiah 40-55.  In this verse, haphets is connected to ‘asah (to do, make or accomplish).  The bottom line is this:  God’s delight is to accomplish His will.

Let that sink in for a minute.  When you and I think about “delight,” we usually have an emotion in mind.  Happiness, joy, rejoicing, pleasure, satisfaction, fulfillment:  all of these are associated with “delight.”  But God’s view of delight is slightly different.  God delights in doing what He pleases to do.  His version of delight is connected with action of the will.  And what God wills to do, He does.  So, we could draw the conclusion that we serve a God Who is absolutely delighted with Himself.

Throw away that mythology of a God Who is a harsh taskmaster; a God Who is the equivalent of the moral policeman in the sky.  Our God loves to do what He does.  He is full of smiles, chuckles and joy as He sees His plans come to fruition.  He is the laughing God.  Haphets, the word for “delight,” is all about God’s will.  When I do His will, He delights in me.  When He does His will, He delights in Himself.

You and I have been given an incredible privilege.  We can bring delight to God.  We can cooperate in fulfilling His desire; a desire that is perfectly delightful.  Every second that we are in line with the Father, we provide immeasurable delight to Him.  And He shares that delight will all His children.

Today is a great day to experience God’s emotional will – delightful desire.  Enjoy!
