Deuteronomy 6:6 Let these words I urge on you today be written on your heart.

In The Scarlet Letter, Hester Prynne is the Hero of the romance who loves God with all her might.

Hester is the one who is not afraid to take the path into the forest with her young daughter Pearl.

In this allegory of the “human heart, ” confronting the demons is part of the journey.

For Hawthorne, one must travel through the “heart of darkeness” to get to the center of the soul.

For Hawthorne, the center of the soul is where the good, the true, and the beautiful reside.

For Hawthorne, these words are written on your heart, at the center of the soul.

And deep in the forest, Hester’s daughter Pearl, the little “angel,” is completely at home.
