Thank you for the clear description of the Hebrew and Greek paradigm differences. I never tire of hearing this. The repetition is beneficial so that these principles become a way of life. May they penetrate my heart to transform my perspective so that I walk in love and trust God completely!
Passion and Power
– There is a divine purpose behind emotions
– Harnessed for direction = passion to produce
– Feeling your way into God’s will
Hi Skip,
Just listened to the emotional leadership recording and really enjoyed it.
I learned a lot and most of it makes sense to me, but I’m wondering if “Feeling your way into God’s will” isn’t a bit too subjective?
I would agree that “There is a divine purpose behind emotions” and that emotions drive our “passion to produce.”
But feelings without experience and knowledge of the law (objectivity) can easily lead us down the wrong path.
Seems to me that to “harness” our emotions for direction, we must transform them in the process.
A process not unlike the alchemical transformation of base metals into “gold.”
As a counteractive force to the pressure for rational leadership, feelings become very important. Jesus is not all head knowledge. In fact, most of his “teaching” is based on some emotional confrontation. But, you are right. Feelings alone are inadequate. That’s why the Psalms are such a good guide. David permits himself to express the full range of emotions, but he always comes back to the substance of the relationship with God. That arrives via the tradition of the prophets and is therefore based in God’s revealed words.
