Tara Thorman
Dear friends and family,
For many years my wife Tara has struggled with some significant issues which have manifested in an increasing number of unhealthy, addictive, and self destructive behaviors and patterns throughout our 15 years of marriage.
Her physical and mental health has finally reached the point where she recognizes her need for inpatient treatment. For years she has been suffering from anorexia which is further complicated by an addiction to over exercising, and alcohol. She has been counseled to enter a specialized treatment facility and to receive supervised care for as long as it takes to be restored to full mental and physical health. Tara knows that she cannot win this battle on her own, and she wants to start treatment immediately.
There is no easy cure for a person suffering from an eating disorder of this magnitude. All of our efforts and professional counseling have not provided the healing she needs. Seeing a therapist twice a week, or having an accountability relationship with others who struggle, or being prayed over for special healing alone won’t resolve the deeply ingrained issues of wrong thinking and destructive behavior that have built up over many years.
Tara must be surrounded by professionals who not only trust in God for healing, but also have the training and experience to help those who struggle with these types of illnesses. Remuda Ranch, a privately funded Christian treatment facility in Virginia, is one of the best places where such care is available. The treatment, of course, is expensive. But recognizing her critical need, Remuda has graciously and dramatically reduced their regular fees by over 70% to a discounted rate of $36,000 for the initial 45 days of intensive treatment. Unfortunately this reduced rate is still way beyond our family’s financial capacity. So, we are making our pain and our financial need known to those in our extended family, our community of faith, and our friends and neighbors. As soon as we raise the initial $36,000, Tara will begin treatment. Our prayer is that she can get started before the end of September. After 45 days (the time it takes for many patients to get well) her situation will be re-evaluated to determine whether further care is required.
My step daughter Madeline (Maddy) is taking responsibility for her mom’s fund raising efforts and she has just opened a bank account called The Tara Thorman Fund. We are trusting God to provide and meet Tara’s needs. He can and will do that by directing people to contribute and give as they are able.
Please pray for Tara and our family as there is so much pain and brokenness. Then, as God directs you, write a check payable to The Tara Thorman Fund and send it to Maddy Guerra, 530 Blanchard Rd, Sanford, NC, 27332. You can call Maddy at (919-498-0586) or e-mail her at guerramaddy@yahoo.com with any questions. Thank you and God bless you.
Sincerely,
John Thorman

John, I feel the pain. It may not be YOUR pain I feel, no one can know that but you. Each individual experiences pain and knows it intimately in their own way. So I cannot tell you, “I know how you feel” but I would like to express that my heart goes out to you and your family. As you consider the stripes Yeshua took for our healing, the rejection of His love and the judgment of unbelievers, may these meditations be of consolation as you walk one step at at time. I will pray for the peace of God to overtake you and your family as you follow Him on this road.
Mary
