I love this. Do you ever sell your photography? I would love to blow this up and frame it!

Michael

Yes this picture certainly captures the beauty of Venice!

And one could argue that Venice is the most beautiful place in the world.

If not for the air pollution.

Makes me think of my earliest memories of the “golden arches.”

Before McDonald’s, the first “Big M” was in my home town, San Berdardino, aka Berdoo, right off Highland Ave and on E street.

We used to cruise up and down E street back in the 60’s and then in and out of the Big M.

Before and after it became a McDonald’s.

Then we would head off to the boondocks out in East Highland.

Out in the boondocks, we would drag race our cars a la American Graffiti.

I first noticed the actor Harrison Ford in American Graffiti, where he had the fastest car.

So did my buddy, a guy named Bruce Savage, whose older brother was later killed in the Indy 500.

Swede Savage, who raced for Dan Gurney was also the “best man” at my first wedding.

When I went to Highland Jr High school the school colors were Blue and Gold.

When I see the beautiful Blue and Gold above, I tend to think of the Microsoft logo.

I also think of the so-called Magic Quadrant, which looks just like the Microsoft logo.

It is a quadrant of four colors.

Orange | Green
—- —-
Blue | Gold

The Magic Quadrant is used by the Gartner Group to indicate which High Tech companies are Visionary Leaders.

This ranking is based on the performance of their technology.

The companies are judged on the Vision and Execution of their product.

The companies with the most vision and ability to execute are considered Best of Breed.

And they are put in the upper right-Hand corner of the Magic Quadrant, which I like to is refer to as the “Green Zone.”

Have you seen the movie called The Green Zone?

If so, you know that the Hero of the movie, Matt Damon, does some serious troubleshooting in The Green Zone.

The Green Zone is the third movie in a trilogy that includes Bourne Identity and Bourne Supremecy.

I love Bourne Identity.

It is best of breed IMO 🙂

Michael,

When i read your comment I was thinking that this must be by Michael. I too related to American Graffiti and the drag racing because I also grew up in that era, circling around the Hi-D-Ho. There were two Hi-D-Hos in Lubbock, TX and one of them had car hops on skates! Then the family moved to Colorado Springs, CO in 1961. There I saw the first of my McDonald’s in 1961. The hamburgers (tiny and tasteless w/only bun, patty and ketchup) couldn’t compare to the hamburgers (large buns, greasy patty, w/veggies and mustard) at the Hi-D-Ho for 35 cents. In l962 I met Parnelli Jones and Agajanian who were there for the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. They were at my dad’s radio station, KPIK, for an interview and I worked there at the time. It was the 1962 PP Hill Climb that I got to attend. My friends drag raced and we attended drag races at Divide, CO. And now I work in an academic electronic library! Guess the people on this blog represent a vast mish-mosh of backgrounds! 🙂

Hi Michael,

Your stream of memories is amazing! I can totally relate to your flow of connections. Do others find it difficult to follow your conversation rabbit trails? 🙂

Have you seen “Inception” yet, starring Leonardo DiCaprio? I highly recommend it. Here’s a 5 minute interview w/ the actor:

Hi Cyndee,

Thanks, I’m glad you can relate to my memories and flows of connections.

Regarding other people following my flows of memories, I guess they really don’t.

Because I really don’t have the experience itself, unless I’m alone walking or writing.

And I have found that it is very difficult for me to explain what I’m talking about in person.

But I can now explain what I believe to my children in simple terms and that is very gratifying.

Regarding Inception, I have not seen the movie yet but your trailer looks very interesting.

It looks like it might be something like the movie, “Waking Life.”

Waking Life is like a vivid dream and the dialogue is like a philosopher’s “stream of consciousness.”

My favorite line is about Philip K. Dick (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?).

“So Philip K. Dick had this theory that time was an illusion and that we were all actually in 50 A.D., and the reason he had written this book was that he had somehow momentarily punctured through this illusion, this veil of time, and what he had seen there was what was going on in the Book of Acts.

And he was really into Gnosticism, and this idea that this demiurge, or demon, had created this illusion of time to make us forget that Christ was about to return, and the kingdom of God was about to arrive. And that we’re all in 50 A.D., and there’s someone trying to make us forget that God is imminent. And that’s what time is. That’s what all of history is. It’s just this kind of continuous, you know, daydream, or distraction.

And so I read that, and I was like, well that’s weird.”
