A Letter to the Community
Dear Faithful Followers of Today’s Word,
Hello, my name is Michael Moen, the youngest son of Skip Moen. I gladly admit that I have been influenced by my father’s teachings, which I must say I hardly appreciated up until a few years ago. I have chosen to walk away from that world of my peers and walk with my love for God who has been calling me to follow in my father’s footsteps. I originally had no idea what it was God was asking of me, as I am sure I do not know even today what He will do with me in the future. All I do know is God is asking me to learn from my father, to listen to what he is saying, to see what he is doing, and I believe these things will have a profound effect in my life and the lives of those around me.
I recently finished 4 years of college and am now attending Liberty University Seminary so that I may receive my Masters of Divinity. When I am finished, my plan is to join the military as a chaplain. As I have discovered throughout my life, learning doesn’t necessarily come from the classroom, but also through experiences which provide me with new insights of God’s teaching. I feel that God has much more to teach me through influential figures like my father, so that I might be, if God wills it, an example to my own generation. I had the privilege to go to Israel with my father along with many of the followers of At God’s Table. I left Israel with an understanding that is hard to describe in words. Everything I wanted for myself, everything my heart had been longing to experience had finally become clear. This was a very significant point in the path that I believe God continues to lead me along.
I have an opportunity to travel with my father again, this time to South Africa in October 2013. It is my desire to witness and be involved in the ministry he is providing to the people there. I am a full time graduate student with little income and the trip will cost about $3,000. I believe that I will have saved about $1000. I am asking if you would support me in anyway you feel you lead to do. Anything would be a blessing.
Above all I would ask for your prayers. I am truly thankful to have been given the opportunity to even consider such a trip, and am thankful that I have those in my life who wish to spend their lives giving to others. This is why I am so glad that Today’s Word exists, because other than the teachings I receive from my father’s daily devotions, I have seen first hand the generosity of those of you out there who are willing to help others like Irene. Though we may be miles apart, know that I am thankful for you, and that I am a firm believer in prayer. I hope that your prayers may be answered and that blessings may be bestowed on your lives and the lives of those around you. God is good!

you are the fruit of your father’s labor. God always pays for what He wants you to do for Him.
YAH bless you, that was a beautiful testimony.
Thank you for letting us know Michael. Skip has my email, can you get in touch with me? I would like to be there for you as your Dad and this community have been for me. Thanks for the opportunity.
Hello Michael,
I have also been very influenced by your father’s teachings and continually encounter new ways of understanding many things that I thought I already knew.
Congratulations on finishing 4 years of college; for me, that was the first time in my life I had really ever accomplished anything worthwhile.
And it opened so many doors, intellectually and spiritually speaking, that when I look back I am continually amazed. Ultimately it even led to some financial success, but that was never my goal.
One thing that Skip taught me was that many things I felt intellectually attracted in my younger days were really part of a larger context that I now understand as the Hebrew worldview.
I think it is a great idea to get your Masters in Divinity and a chaplain in the military sounds pretty cool too.
You might want to read the poem Gunda Din, I always find it to be very inspiring and the movie is a classic.
The check is in the mail.
Best wishes,
Mike
Thanks Michael. I know that you know the strains of graduate school. Michael just finished up the second term on Friday. He is pretty beat. I’ll be posting a paper he wrote on Luther and Hitler.
