Palacio Nacional, Queluz, Portugal

Off the tourist path, but simply marvelous, this palace was the home of Portuguese royalty until 1910 when Portugal expelled the royal family.

Wow..what a stunning Palace.
I studied for a semester in Spain when I was in college and we took a side trip to Portugal for a few days. Unfortunately, we stayed “ON” the tourist paths, and I never saw this gem.
It’s beautiful. Thanks for sharing your photos.

Hmmm

For me the pictures above reflect a society that, for whatever reasons

Puts God at the center of the universe

And is “in touch” with the “unconscious forces” of nature

It has a graceful feminine, touch; full of beauty and color

On the other hand, the link above takes us to a modern example of art and architecture

It is a great example of our modern, rationalistic, capitalistic culture and society

It is not open, it is not in any sense spiritual, and it is almost opposed to nature

It is cold, dark, elegant, and powerful

Kind of like Darth Vader

Hard to imagine living that type of life. Amazing architecture and the colors are phenomenal. Thanks for sharing.
