An Answer to Your Faithfulness

Some time ago I asked you to pray for two of our community, Tim and Rusty.  Here’s what has happened.

From Tim:  Katie, my daughter, is doing better, her spirits are more positive. However she is still struggling with finding friends who are dependable and encouraging. Because she gravitates to those who are hurting she tends to get hurt by them. They tend to take advantage of her kindness and use her for her support then leave her the minute things get better or they find a new boyfriend.

I ask for continued prayer for her. That God places friends in her life who are seeking Him and who are encouraging and faithful. Pray she too seeks God and that He reignites a passion in her for Him and His word.
From Rusty:  I finished my 5th of 6 chemo sessions this past week. The last begins on February 9. I chose to see Dr. Robert Leibowitz in Los Angeles. I’ve known of him for a long time due to my time at the University of Texas. He has quite the reputation for helping seriously ill prostate cancer patients.  When I arrived at his office I noticed a mezuzah on the door post, and thought I must be in the right place. My diagnosis was not good. The cancer in my prostate had morphed into small cell carcinoma, which isn’t good. Dr. Bob spent about 3 hours with me one afternoon and evening talking about this, and we agreed I would start a chemo session in the hospital in LA. The others have been done with the cooperation of a colleague of his in Dallas. I am not as strong as I was before I started the chemo, but I feel fine other than the days I am receiving it. I am even able to go to a gym and work out a few times a week. My appetite is good, and my cancer markers are all normal now. I haven’t had any more scans since October, but will have several when the chemo is over, and I’ve had a chance to recover a little from it. The original prognosis was not good since I was not facing routine, or even “usual” aggressive prostate cancer. However, since then, I have had several individuals cross my path that were diagnosed with wide spread small cell cancers in the pelvic region that are doing extremely well and are 3-5 years out.
