Birthday Day Off

So today is my birthday.  Unlike last year I will not be on a plane by myself.  I will be with my youngest son and my great wife enjoying a glass of red wine in Reggio Emilia.  So I thought I would take the day off and savor a slower pace–for at least 1 day.  Today’s Word will be back tomorrow.

Thanks,

Skip

YHWH will kneel before you presenting gifts and will guard you with a hedge of protection.
YHWH will illuminate the wholeness of his being toward you bringing order and he will give you comfort and sustenance.
YHWH will lift up his wholeness of being and look upon you and he will set in place all you need to be whole and complete.

Pharoah and Herod are the only two individuals in the Scriptures who are recorded as having celebrated their birthdays. What is the history, the origin, the influences, the essence of this common worldly celebration? Why is it not an instruction from YHVH to celebrate the day of one’s birth or even the day of another’s birth or even the day of the Yeshua’s birth? And then there are these questions: Is it in any way prohibited by YHVH in His instructions? Are celebrating traditions widely accepted by the pagan world permissible under certain conditions?

Pieter

In Job 1:4 the understanding was that Job’s children were celebrating their birthdays… and were later killed whilst doing it. There are other calamities associated with birthdays (celebrations) in scripture. I have talked to some Muslims that do not even know their date of birth. It may be that the day to celebrate is the day of your “rebirth”.

Michael Stanley

Regardless of the origins of the practice of recognizing the day of our birth or not celebrating its annual return I wish for Skip today the same thing I pray for him every day…blessings, protection, joy and shalom. Happy day.

Jerry and Lisa

Sure. Why not? Happy day to all! And Skip can take a break any day and for any reason he wants. Drink wine or do whatever. Blessings, protection, joy and shalom to Skip….and you. AMEIN! And we can discuss the topic of the day – BIRTHDAYS. Any thoughts?

Michael Stanley

Nope. No thoughts on YOUR topic of the day. Not my monkey, not my circus, but yes, Happy Day to all, afterall it’s Skip’s Birthday!

We “belonged” to a church which “forbade” the celebration of birthdays for the reason you mentioned. After finally walking away from that church we did not resume the celebration of birthdays nor the giving of gifts. Instead, during breakfast or dinner as we thanked our Father for the food we would also express our thankfulness for the life and health for persons whose birthday is was and that YHWH’s Spirit would give him or her wisdom and a desire to fallow Yeshua’s example of service in all of life’s path. That his or her life would always bring honor to our Father, and King.
