In the Aftermath of the Hurricane

Part of our worldwide community is a wonderful Torah group in Port St. Joe, FL, just 12 miles from the center of the hurricane hit.  I asked you to pray for David Fernandez and his family and the community.  Now I have heard from David.

Here’s his message:

Hi Skip,
We have been home now for 4 days but without any cell service. We just got it back today. Our home had water damage, shed turned upside down and porch was ripped out. Home is still intact though!! We have no power of course but was able to hook our well up to our generator so we have running water! Never knew how bad you could miss it til you don’t have it.

All of our community is safe. No loss of life and coming together as family is supposed to. It is times like this that you realize just how comfortable we have got here in the US. I was reading the reports from Shinta and the children and realize just have blessed (or may be spoiled) we are here, as we still have more then enough clean water to drink, medical care and food to eat every day. It brings tears to my eyes to think of how blessed and at peace she sounds in the midst of a chaotic environment every day.

Right now, we are seeing the beautiful lessons and discipline that our Heavenly Father is wanting to teach us. I only hate that it takes such a catastrophe to do so, due to our own stubbornness and self will. YHWH has been so merciful to us and I see His favor everyday!

Please have the community pray for us as we begin to rebuild. Some have insurance and many do not. But resources, time and hard work is being shared like never before!

David

Thanks for sharing your wonderful heart and attitude during such a catastrophe. I’ve been through a few panhandle hurricanes and have a taste of what your are going through. We are praying with you to persevere and see YHVH in it all. Blessing to you during this rebuilding time. Shalom.

Skip, I know you are familiar with Dothan, AL. All of this area suffered some degree of this hurricane but I dare say nothing like Port St. Joe and the surrounding area. Power is still not on in some parts of Dothan and the clean up in some parts of the city will take weeks but things are getting much better. Jamie and I lost power for a couple of days but thanks to Yah we have gas to cook with and hot water to bathe with. It is amazing to see the good coming from friends and neighbors and the response of the nation to such conditions that many face here. Having known David and his family in Port St. Joe, I am assured that they will be fine and come out of this much stronger in faith and love of Yah! Shalom to them and to us!

I am so glad you are ok!

Thank you for sharing with us David and for modeling such a Godly and appropriate response. We can all learn from your example. While I’m certain it’s not easy, I hope I would respond like you have, (if I were in a similar situation,) and be more focused God’s blessings than trials in the midst of catastrophe.
Praying for the rebuilding process and continued trust in the King.

Halleluah!
