A Short Form of Retirement

Thirty minutes before the last Italy tour finished, I experienced a new form of pain.  My Achilles tendon ruptured and I fell to the floor.  The rest of the night was in the hospital.  Now I am home getting ready for surgery to repair the tendon, and looking forward to more pain and 3 to 6 months of rehab.  No walking the lovely streets of Parma for me–not for quite a while.

So I get early temporary retirement.  Thankfully it did not happen while everyone was here on the study tour.  Once I find the right pain medication, I guess I will be confined to writing and reading.  Such is life in the broken (but repairable) world.
