When you live in East Tennessee, you have scenes like those posted as a part of your everyday life. I sit in my sun room every morning with my cup of Earl Gray and watch the sun rise over the mountains to the east. This morning it is absolutely beautiful as the sun rises in a cloudless sky. My sun room is on second story level, so I am about 15 feet up into the big oak trees that are behind the house. The branches nearly touch the house, and I can observe the birds that come to feed every day on the feed I put out under the trees. The leaves like those pictured above have already fallen, and I cleaned up the last of them yesterday except for a few that will hang on until spring because this is the nature of oak trees. Between the oak trees and the creek, I have a orchard and a vegetable garden. The garden is bare now as all the crops are gone, and I have plowed it up to be ready for spring planting. This is typical of all comitted gardeners who begin to plan next years garden in July of the preceeding year. We are all like the Chicago Cubs “just wait til next year”, and we proceed to tell you how our gardens will be more productive because of a change we will make. It is a wonderful cycle that never ends until we can’t physically garden any more.
I sit here every morning year around and watch God change His creation. No amount of money could buy the peace and pleasure that the Lord provides as He changes the scenery on a minute by minute basis as I look out the windows. I can lose a whole day just sitting here if I am not careful. Just since I have been writing this, the sun has moved up to shine through the stained glass humming bird art we have in the window and a different group of birds have come to feed. I have work to do and I have to stop here.
