When I saw the title The Graves of Havana, I thought maybe it was a repost of Cuba Graveyard from April 5, 2010.

That angel struck me as “a somewhat androgynous looking hero of the Cuban revolution, carrying what seems to be a baseball bat.”

And that statue made me think of the classic gangster/priest film, “Angels with Dirty Faces” (1938).

But this one turns out to be a much more feminine angel than the muscular young man from last year.

This one made me think of the Guardian Angel, which I was reading this morning about 6:00am up at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, where I was awaiting surgery.

I had to go so early because my ex wife had to get home and take the kids to school, because I couldn’t.

So I was in the waiting room with about a dozen other people my age, who were all with spouses.

And I was thinking on the one hand I probably don’t look like the type of person who would be reading a book called The Guardian Angel.

And on the other, these people are probably thinking this poor old fool believes in angels and hopes one will save him if something goes wrong in the surgery.

Well Michael.. (from one ol’ fool to another..) I will testify of my surgery back in December of ’05. “Yea, tho’ I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for Thou art with me..” (Psalm 23.4), hopefully a very familiar passage to all reading these words.
Now, what if, we were able to “live these words.” What if these words were “incarnated” into our lives. What if we actually lived through this as an event, a crisis, a nadir, and knew (experiencially) these words were living and true? Please allow my testimony.. “Yes,” He is.
I want so to write more and tell more and say more, but I’ll stop right here to say- how I want everyone to know- He is so near to us- and so real. I will bless His name forevermore. He delivered me and gave me life.. Physically? Yes. Spiritually? Yes. Emotionally? Yes.- Like I have never known.. “The LORD- He is G-d” and He is our Immanu’el, G-d with us. Amen.

Hi Carl,

Good to hear from you and thanks for sharing Psalm 23.4, it is one of my favorites 🙂
