Breathtaking photos! Is that the St Blaise Church [I had to look it up] in the last two (three?) photos? Very ornate!
I see in the last one almost centered is the nomen sacrum (Latin for sacred name; see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nomina_sacra) “IHS”, which is a contraction of “IHSOUS” (the first two letters plus the last from transliterated Greek ΙΗΣΟΥΣ, the nominative form of “Jesus”), Jesus. For those unaware, these nomina sacra (plural of above) are used throughout early Greek NT manuscripts in Scripture (most times with just first and last letters, as in the wiki link), but also other writings pertaining to Scripture or Christianity.
I’d been in Venice almost 35 years ago during my stint in US military service; however, I sure don’t recall the row of houses painted in such vibrant colors!
[For those curious: At the wiki link the Scripture – in all caps (uncials) – is from John 1:35-37, but only part of the manuscript (right side) is showing. As indicated, the contracted words, the nomina sacra, have a line over them. Approximating in English, with brackets { } indicating missing text it is: {…disciples, h}is two. {When he s}aw (the) Jesus pass{ing by } he said, “Look the {lamb} of God! When they {heard, the two} disciples hi{m…}.]
I visited just the mainland. But, then again, that was 35 years ago!

On a more mundane level…I’m sure Rosanne enjoyed all the beautiful lace and linens items that Burano is so famous for? While you were taking photos, I’m betting she was buying lace. :-)))
Beautiful artectiture, thanks so much for sharing , some of us will not be able to visit these countries , but through your pictures we can imagine being there ! Thanks to you!

By any chance, is the 4th picture of the Scuolo di Rocco in Venice? It certainly looks like it.
That was one of the first places John and I visited in Venice and went back the next day to hear a concert of Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons.”
Spectacular and emotional. Especially in that setting.
You’re a blessed man to have so many wonderful traveling opportunities…experiences…photos.
And, thanks for sharing so many of them with your readers. We appreciate it.

I bought my husband, Eric, a bow tie when we were in Croatia and he bought me some lace when we were in Belgium. I must say he models the bow tie well in his birthday suit. And he said I modeled the lace…well I can’t say that on here!?

The pastel houses are in Burano, an island in the Venetian group
