Cemetery, Vienna

Not on the tourist map, for sure.  Something I have noticed as I creep around great cemeteries in the world.  I have never seen (maybe once) a representation of a MAN crying or grieving for a woman.  It is almost always the stern face of the deceased man with a woman weeping, mourning and expressing emotion.  Even in our representations of death, the Greek ideals dominate.  Where is the man stricken by the loss of his ezer?

You didn’t see the grief in the man’s stern face? Men are taught to not show it, don’t you know (which drives women to distraction, by the way). His grief face and his normal face are going to look the same. In a Greek taught society, that is…

Thank you for this image. It is both touching and heartwarming. I have never understood the American (Western) stoic stiff upper lip admiration in the midst of grief.
